January 24, 2002 marks the day on which
Dr. Nour Eddine El Kouche commissioned Nour Kanafani Design to develop the new
Logo and Visual Identity System of the Beirut Governmental University Hospital

The brief was to incorporate the multitude the characteristics that mark the
BGUH as the most advanced medical environment in the Middle East. The logo must
portray a corporate culture embedded with confidence, well-being, technology,
government, and university/education all encompassed in a shape representative
of its proud Lebanese origin. With the help of Dr. Kouche, Nour Kanafani Design
started this design process with a vision that would transfer into one of the
most coherent Medical Corporate Identity Systems in the area.
Several factors come together within the BGUH logo.
-
The two rising shapes represent the powerful architecture of this institution,
with the thick side edges hinting at spines of books to echo the educational
presence of the hospital. Linked together by a thick line that takes its
character from the architecture and at the same time draws the letter “H” for
Hospital.
-
The two shapes are topped by a representation of “beams of technology” which at
the same time abstract the vision of the proud Lebanese Cedar with the truck of
the tree embedded in the H shape. The green colour was a spontaneous choice.
-
This combination of shapes in encompassed within a square of WARM GREY that
adds to the warmth of the environment and emphasizes the human factor.

| The name of the hospital was changed officially to Rafik Hariri University
Hospital (RHUH) on February 17 2006, through a decree of the council of the
ministers. The blue color, new logo and name were adopted unanimously. |
