DIETARY DIVISION
The Dietary Division at BGUH is a large, complex and dynamic organization responsible for all food and nutrition services. The Dietary Division provides services for all patient populations including pediatric, neonatal, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Service to specialty units includes the following:Burn, Renal Center, Oncology and Hematology, Transplant, Intensive care unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Surgery Unit, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Digestive Disease, OB/GYN, Eating Disorders and endocrine disorders. The Dietary Division also provides services to visitors, guests and medical staff. The Dietary Division supports the hospital's vision through its commitment to education and research.
Mission and Vision

The Department's innovative mission is to provide quality community based services. We provide nutrition care for all inpatients and for clients in many ambulatory settings; we manage production and service of all meals for patients, staff, and visitors and provide an extensive catering service. The Department is also committed to teaching. Our mission is to educate students, professionals, and the public about the role of food, nutrition, and health in all aspects of life
Goals

Our goals are:

  • To promote individualized medical nutrition therapy in a multidisciplinary approach as a means to optimize patient care at BGUH.

  • To offer nutritionally adequate, attractive, and satisfying meals to patients, staff, visitors, and guests with accurate diet modifications for patients as ordered by the medical staff.

  • To provide ongoing education in all aspects of nutrition and food service.

  • To serve as a resource to the employees and students at BGUH

Programs and Services

Clinical Nutrition Services Provides:

Timely nutrition assessment, counseling, nutrition education and instruction as ordered by the medical staff and/or as defined in departmental policies to meet the needs of patients’ various backgrounds. Standardized approaches to nutrition care used throughout the hospital and based on internationally published guidelines. Clinical nutrition services provide services to both inpatients and outpatients.

Food Services Provides:

Nutritionally adequate, well-balanced, attractive, and satisfying meals to patients, staff, visitors, and guests; with accurate diet modifications for patients as ordered by the medical staff and planned by a qualified dietitian. A safe and sanitary food service environment, according to the standards of quality as established by the Accreditation Standards of the Lebanese ministry of health. Patient Food Service is provided for hospital inpatients through room service. Retail Food Service is provided for all staff, faculty, students, visitors, guests through the Staff and visitors Dining Room and visitors' cafeteria. The Dietary Division is committed to providing healthy menu choices.

Catering service provide nutrient analysis of menu items.

Education :

The Dietary Division at BGUH is committed to education.The department conducts an 11-month dietetic internship program. The program is directed by the director of Dietary Division and supervised by an internship coordinator. The Dietetic Internship Program is a generalist program offering management, clinical, research, and community experiences.

We provide a community-focused dietetic internship that fosters the development of Registered Dietitians who promote healthy lifestyles and improve the nutritional status of the community through education and supportOur goals are to graduate interns who are committed to serving professionally in the field of dietetics and who are able to competently deliver nutrition services to population groups who have a wide range of interests, educational backgrounds, income levels and cultural differences.

The department is also committed to teaching. Research is carried on in the division with the goal of improving and expanding the delivery of dietetic services.

Training and on-going education is also a major activity in the Dietary Division in order to achieve and maintain excellence in the provision of services.

Location
The Dietary Division is located on the Basement floor 1 (B1) of the hospital Main Building, near the restaurant.
