Central Sterile Services Department(CSSD)

Objective and Functions:

The Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) is divided into five major areas: decontamination, assembly and processing, sterilizing, sterile storage, and distribution.
The objectives of central service include the following:

  • To provide inventoried supplies and equipment to customer areas.
  • To promote better patient care by providing prompt and accurate service.
  • To provide supplies of sterile linen packs, basins, instruments, and other sterile items.
  • To maintain an accurate record of the effectiveness of the cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing processes.
  • To strive for uniformity and simplicity in the trays and sets that the department provides.
  • To maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • To monitor and enforce controls necessary to prevent cross infection according to infection control policies.
  • To establish and maintain sterile processing and distribution standards.
  • To operate efficiently to reduce overhead expense.
  • To stay abreast of developments in the field and to implement changes as needed to stay current with new regulations and recommended practices.
  • To review current practice for possible improvements in quality or services provided.
  • To provide consulting services to other departments in all areas of sterile processing and distribution, including in- service education programs, review policies and procedures, and implementation of new processes.
Dietary Division

Nutritional Services is a division completely responsible for the nutritional care of both inpatients and outpatients on a daily basis. The Department provides a safe, clean working environment for employees as well training for employees and dietary students.

Catering services is provided for special events, meetings, seminars, and other similar activities.

The Department is also committed to teaching. Our mission is to educate students, professionals, and the public about the role of food, nutrition, and health in all aspects of life.
Infection Control

The objective of the Infection Control Department is to reduce preventable infection to the lowest possible level at acceptable cost by mainly performing the following:

  • Advice on isolation procedures and infection control measures
  • Controlling outbreaks by rectification of technical lapses (if any)
  • Infection control audit including inspection of waste disposal, laundry and kitchen
  • Investigation of outbreaks
  • Monitoring of hospital-associated infections
  • Monitoring of staff health to prevent spread of infection
  • Training of staff in prevention and control of HAI

With cooperation between all those involved, the chain of infection can be broken and work towards a healthy environment would be underway. The Infection Control Program at RHUH strives to minimize the risk, prevent and control the transmission of patients/ hospital/ facility/ community-associated infections.
Medical Record Management (MRM)

The Medical Record Management (MRM) keeps medical records in complete confidentiality through organizing the records and making sure they are complete, save and maintained. The hard copies of the records are controlled by a specially trained team. The original records are kept in an electronic record keeping system.

The division also provides quick medical services for the hospital's administration and all those caring for the patient. It also provides information to authorized personnel.

This division also serves as the best site for research. The division also includes the statistics section where all data is collected, organized and analyzed, then sent to the concerned departments.
Pharmacy

The RHUH Pharmacy Department is devoted to the concept of high quality, cost effective, timely delivery of drug therapy and achievement of optimal patient outcomes. It provides therapeutic drug monitoring, therapeutic interventions, pharmacokinetic consults, drug information and medication distribution to the patients served throughout the institution.

Services offered by the pharmacy:

  • Dispensing drugs to inpatients and insured outpatients
  • Preparation of Cytotoxic drugs & IV Admixture.
  • Dissemination of information on drugs to doctors, nurses & other users.
  • Training of pharmacy students (Hospital Pharmacy and Clinical pharmacy programs).
  • Cooperating in education continuing program.
  • Preparation of TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition).
Quality improvement

The goals of the Quality Improvement Department are to improve patient care and safety.
The Quality Improvement Department:

  • Initiates and monitors actions to improve all the hospital services.
  • Have to ensure that the quality requirements of patients are met and that the necessary inspections, tests, verification and methods are carried out according to the accreditation standards.
  • Prevent the recurrence of errors and to control non-conforming services by initiating correctives actions and monitoring them.
  • Provides, manages and conducts internal audit system for all departments to identify areas for improvement
  • • Have to assure that each department has a continuing education program
Social Medical Services

The Social Medical Services Division performs all basic social work functions which include patient interviews, referrals for assistance with financial aid, transportation, or other services, reporting of patient abuse or neglect, adoptions, crisis counseling, grief therapy.
It is the responsibility of the social medical services division to integrate social work with overall hospital care and provide a broad range of services to the elderly, disabled, families, and individuals who need assistance in maintaining or achieving their full potential for self-direction, self-reliance and independent living.
Social Medical Services division provides medical assistance and services without discrimination of any kind such as race, age, color, religion, sex, disability, handicap (including AIDS and AIDS-Related conditions), political belief or national origin.
The referral should indicate the nature of one problem. Social Services will assess the condition and provide the appropriate intervention. Entities Attached to the Division For Administrative Purposes:
